TILES

Friday 29th May. The tilers started working on getting our bare concret floors covered with some tiles. They asked to meet one of us at the site at 7am to discuss where we wanted our tiles....so surprise surprise Rachel wanted to go down to see the "Tradies"...and from all accounts from Rachel, she wasnt disapointed. The boys will be back next week to grout the tiles...will have to make sure she is at work.

BLOKES WORLD - The Shed Part 1

The Guys at Precision Steel Frames came up with the best quote for our 6m x 12m shed. We have a 2 bay car port (6x6m) and a 6 x 6m storage (I mean beer drinking area). These photos show the first the first day of construction. Thanks to Jason Spies (The Shed Builder) and the guys at Goombungee Concreting for the work so far. Hoepfully some time next week we will have a place to put the landscaping equipment.

Cannot get inside - So lets start outside

21st May - We decided that we would start to plant some shrubs outside and get some tube stock established in the garden ready for our move into the house. We ordered some Pittosporum tenuifolium "Silver Sheen" tube stock from Fernview Nurseries in Melbourne. The stock was packaged and sent via Aust Post and arrived in great condition. We got our mate Davo from Davos Bob Cat hire in Highfields to dig a trench to loosen up some soil to help the roots sprout and secure them in the ground. Brought 30m of poly pipe and some drippers for watering once the tank and pump are hooked up. We are very happy with the outcome.

Shelving and Doors

The Legend chippy has been back to start the insertion of the shelving, architraves and doors. This has given the house a whole new look and feel. A great job again by the team. Not long to go now until the painters, tilers and carpet will be down.

At Lock Up

The Brickies have finished, all of the windows, doors and roller doors are in....and we are locked out...Bugger. We got a look inside today and the plasterers have nearly finished preping the walls for the cornice and painting to be completed later this week.

Cabinets and Kitchen are In

13th May.

The Cabinet maker arrived and fitted all of the cabintes into the house. This included the kitchen, laundry cabinets, bathroom vanities, the mail centre, and the study bench.

Now for the Bricks

Thursday 7th May and the brickies turn up in force to start the work. We chose a Boral double height brick called Sandstone Gold. They finshed the side along the kids rooms and left hand front after day one. A great finish with the light mortar. The colour of the window frames and the front door really sets the brick tone as great match.

Plaster Is Up - A Whole New Look

We really didnt think that adding plaster would make such change to the internal part of the house. It was amazing to see how big the rooms looked since the plaster was hung. Now we can relax as we thought that some of the rooms were a bit on the small size.

Stone, Stones and more Rock

Problem # One. We knew we had to put up a retainer wall of some description, but when the guy came in to do the cut for the retainer wall we struck rock and made it impossible to dig any further down for the posts for a timber retainer. Solution....build a rock wall. Mmmmm easier said than done. But none the less a good outcome. Mark Davies at Davos Bobcat Hire (0418 193 727) did a fantasic job on the wall.

The Timber Facier

We decided to break up the brick work and put in Hard Plank timber facier. We wil pain this a beige of some sort, but at the moment we are undecided.

Day 11 - The Complete Frame

2 days of work and the frame work is completed. At the end of this day the Rhino Wrap arrived and was put on the next day. On that same day the Colourbond steel roof material arrived. We thought it would be days before the roofers would start but guess what...Day 13 and they were starting, at the end of day 16 the roof was complete.

Day 9 - The Framing Starts

This is the end of Day one of framing. The chippy is a legend guy who doesn't get paid enough for the time, effort and attention he puts in.

Day 7 - The Frame Arrives

Day 7 and the timber frames arrive. We chose Cyprus Pine for our frames.

Next came the concrete

Although I could think of one or two people I would love to put under this slab !!!, we ended up with a very thick, smooth and probably one of the best slab formations I have seen. Believe it or not, but this is day 5 since the site prep was done and exactly one week post council approval.

Lots of Plastic and Steel Reo

The Footing trenches being dug and the steel reo going down. At one stage there was a guy who was 5'8" tall in one of those trenches...he was up to his armpit deep. Thats what you get for building on "H" Class soil.
